Casa de Espera Project

Message from Mozambique...

The Health Sciences of the University of Saskatchewan have had a long working relationship and exchange with the Training for Health Renewal Program in Mozambique. Over 70 students ranging from medicine, pharmacy, community health and epidemiology, physiology, nutrition, dentistry have had the opportunity to work and contribute to community  health and development through the Massinga Training Centre.

Over this period critical projects have been identified that deal with some of the urgent health issues Mozambicans are facing.   One such project is the Casa de Espera project. Mozambique has one of highest mother and child mortality rates because of the lack of adequate support to mothers prior to the birth of their children. A safe and secure and nurturing environment while mothers wait to deliver their children will contribute immensely to cutting the high mortality rates.

The Casa de Espera will be built alongside the Massinga Hospital. It will be built to be comfortable for expectant mothers and provide the care and attention they need from emotional to nutritional support. Right now, mothers wait in the sun and rain with no adequate space where they can rest and gather their physical and mental energies for the birth of their children.

Your support of the Casa de Espera is really appreciated.

Thank you...obrigado...
